Fakie Wheelies

Joel Weston from MACAFRAMA on Vimeo.

In case ya'll haven't seen these yet...

This is Joel Weston (top video) of the Macaframa crew. He is supposedly the first to pull off the fakie wheelie in fixed gear freestyle. Yes, it has been done by artistic cyclists before, but it's a bit different when you're not running a 1:1 ratio (in my opinion). Another guy, Jun Iwai (bottom video), has this clip out of him getting a few cranks of one.

Tuesday Bike Polo

Miguel just told me about the new Tuesday polo meetup here in town...South Side Happy Hour Bike Polo I believe it's titled...meets on Tuesdays at 5PM at Joslin Park near Ben White and Manchaca.

The polo guys are awesome if you don't know. Everyone is really nice and there's usually a few other beginners out there so you don't feel too bad for looking bad out there!

Samson on TrickTrack

If you've ever been out to bike polo on a Sunday you've probably seen Miguel out there showing everyone what's up...when I first went out to play, him and I briefly talked about a Samson frameset he had just sitting around. Well now he's decided to sell the thing. Like many other NJS frames this one has a dent- this one in the top tube. Compared to those being sold on tracksupermarket though this one is dirt cheap...not to mention many of the NJS frames being sold these days have dents as well...

the original listing on Trick Track can be found here: http://www.tricktrack.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4566

Galveston

Over Thanksgiving break I went to Galveston and took my gears with me. I put in about 35 miles along the seawall one day and got honked at about a thousand times. Pulling back in to home base I got honked at one more time, the car was passing me pretty slowly so I turned around to see what was up. This big Galveston PARD truck filled with at least four guys crammed into the front row pulls up; one really old guy with that weathered look that east Texans get was sticking his head out the window and waving me a big thumbs up. It made my day.

In other news: Surfing in Texas still sucks (most of the time).
